Solar Panel Installation in Padur

Residential campuses sized on their real load, not on a day college template

Padur’s campuses are residential, and that makes them a different proposition from a day college. Hostels run through the evening, the night and much of the vacation, which means the load profile looks nothing like the term-time-daytime pattern most campus proposals are built on.

The local picture

Why a hostel campus is not a day college

Padur’s educational institutions are largely residential, with hostel accommodation alongside teaching buildings, and that changes the solar arithmetic considerably. A day college consumes almost entirely within generating hours and drops to near zero during vacation. A residential campus consumes through the evening and night, continues consuming during much of the vacation, and carries a far higher baseline from kitchens, water heating, pumps and hostel lighting.

Day collegeResidential campus
Load patternTerm time daytime onlyContinuous, day and night
Vacation consumptionMinimalSubstantial
Solar coverageVery high during termGood, though night load cannot be served
Sizing basisTerm-time daytime loadAnnual load, excluding the night portion

What that means for a proposal

Not all annual consumption is addressable

A significant share falls outside generating hours. Kitchen equipment, water heating and hostel lighting run in the evening and at night. A proposal presenting total annual consumption as offsettable is overstating what the system will do.

The vacation helps rather than hurts here

Unlike a day college, a residential campus with continuing occupancy through part of the vacation has somewhere for summer generation to go, which is precisely when generation peaks. That makes the sizing less punishing than for a purely day institution.

The trust tax position applies as elsewhere

Most institutions here operate as trusts, and accelerated depreciation is worth nothing without taxable income to offset. Where that applies, an OPEX or RESCO structure often compares better than ownership, and it should be checked with the institution’s auditor.

Installation is best scheduled in vacation

And because approvals take weeks, the audit and design need starting months ahead.

The process

How installation works

1

Free site survey

Shade-free roof area measured across the day, structure checked, connection name and sanctioned load confirmed.

2

Design and itemised quotation

Sized against twelve months of consumption, with every component named.

3

Approvals filed

PM Surya Ghar and TANGEDCO net metering, plus load enhancement or phase conversion in parallel where needed.

4

Installation

One to three days for a residential system, carried out by our own team rather than subcontracted.

5

Inspection and commissioning

TANGEDCO inspects, both meters go in, the system goes live.

6

Subsidy tracked to your account

And two years of maintenance included from commissioning.

We check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, because a mismatch stops more applications than any technical issue. See what to keep ready.

Been shown a proposal covering your full annual consumption?

On a hostel campus that overstates it. Night load cannot be served by solar without storage, and we say so.

What happens after you send your details

  1. We call you within one working day, and an engineer rather than a salesperson attends the site.
  2. The survey is free. We measure usable area and shading, check your connection and sanctioned load, and photograph the site.
  3. You get an itemised quotation naming every component and brand, with the subsidy or depreciation position set out.
  4. No obligation at any point. If solar does not make sense for your property, we will say so.

Common questions

Solar in Padur, common questions

A day college consumes almost entirely within generating hours and drops to near zero during vacation, so it is sized to term-time daytime load. A residential campus consumes through the evening and night and continues through much of the vacation, so it is sized against annual load excluding the night portion, which solar cannot serve without storage.

No. Kitchen equipment, water heating and hostel lighting run in the evening and at night, outside generating hours. A proposal presenting total annual consumption as offsettable is overstating what the system will do. What solar covers well is the daytime baseline, which on a residential campus is substantial.

Only if it has taxable income to offset. Most institutions here operate as trusts or societies, and depreciation is a deduction against taxable profit, so it is worth nothing to an entity without a tax liability. Where that applies, an OPEX or RESCO arrangement often compares better than ownership. Check with your auditor before evaluating any proposal.

Six to ten weeks from survey to a live, net-metered system, with TANGEDCO approval and meter installation the main variable. The installation itself is one to three days for a residential system, and longer for a commercial or industrial project.

Yes. We file the PM Surya Ghar application and the TANGEDCO net metering application, follow both through the section office, and track the subsidy to your bank account. We also check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, since a mismatch stops applications more often than any technical issue.

Two years of free maintenance from commissioning, covering panel cleaning, annual inspection of connections and structure, generation monitoring and warranty coordination with the manufacturer.
