Solar Panel Installation in Mylapore

Tiled and sloped roofs quoted properly, not at a flat terrace rate then revised

Mylapore has the oldest housing stock of any locality in this list, and it needs a different approach. Mangalore tile and sloped roofs mount differently from flat terraces, older structures need assessing before anything is anchored to them, and the narrow lanes around the temple limit how material and equipment reach a site.

The local picture

Old roofs and narrow lanes

Mylapore’s building stock spans a century, and a large share of properties have Mangalore tile or sloped roofs rather than the flat RCC terraces most of Chennai offers. Sloped roofs mount differently, waterproofing at the penetrations is more critical, and the structure underneath needs assessing before an array is fixed to it. Access is the second constraint: the lanes around the temple and the older streets are narrow, which affects how material and lifting equipment reach a site.

Roof types we work with in Mylapore

Mangalore tile and sloped roofs

Mounting follows the roof pitch, fixings must be properly sealed at every penetration, and there is limited scope for raising the array. Entirely workable, and a different job from a flat terrace.

Older RCC terraces

Structural condition matters. Visible cracking or spalling on a decades-old slab should be assessed before anchoring an array into it.

Mixed roofs

Part terrace and part sloped, which are very common in extended Mylapore houses. Usually the array goes on the flat portion, sometimes spanning across both.

Newer redeveloped properties

Which are straightforward flat RCC.

Do this first

Waterproofing deserves particular attention here

If a Mylapore terrace already leaks or the waterproofing membrane is near the end of its life, redo it before installation. Removing an installed array to repair waterproofing costs considerably more than doing the work first, and on an older slab it is a question worth asking.

Access planning

Narrow lanes need planning, not assuming

Material handling and any lifting equipment need working out in advance. We establish this at the survey, because discovering it on installation day is how a two-day job becomes a four-day one.

Areas we cover within Mylapore: Luz, Santhome, Mandaveli, RK Mutt Road, Kutchery Road, the Kapaleeshwarar temple streets, the Alwarpet border.

Residential

Solar for Mylapore homes

Older independent houses

Typically install 2 kW to 4 kW, with roof type and usable area rather than consumption usually setting the size.

Tiled and sloped roofs

Cost more to mount than flat terraces and offer less scope for elevated structures. We price that honestly rather than quoting a flat-terrace rate and revising later.

Apartment blocks

Of which Mylapore has a growing number, follow the association route for common areas.

Heritage and older properties

Where a building has architectural significance or restrictions, check what applies before committing to a design.

Commercial

Solar for Mylapore businesses

Mylapore’s commercial base is long-established: schools, temples and trusts, clinics, small retail, restaurants and professional offices.

Schools

A strong daytime match, though the long vacation changes how a campus should be sized. Most operate as trusts, which affects the tax position and often makes an OPEX structure worth modelling.

Temples and trusts

Similar tax position, with common-area and approach lighting sometimes a better first project than a rooftop system.

Clinics and small offices

Good daytime load and higher commercial tariffs.

Retail and restaurants

Evening-weighted, and roof rights on leased premises come first.

The process

How installation works

1

Free site survey

Shade-free roof area measured across the day, structure checked, connection name and sanctioned load confirmed.

2

Design and itemised quotation

Sized against twelve months of consumption, with every component named.

3

Approvals filed

PM Surya Ghar and TANGEDCO net metering, plus load enhancement or phase conversion in parallel where needed.

4

Installation

One to three days for a residential system, carried out by our own team rather than subcontracted.

5

Inspection and commissioning

TANGEDCO inspects, both meters go in, the system goes live.

6

Subsidy tracked to your account

And two years of maintenance included from commissioning.

We check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, because a mismatch stops more applications than any technical issue. See what to keep ready.

It is a different job, not an impossible one. We mount to the pitch, seal every penetration properly, and price it honestly at the survey.

What happens after you send your details

  1. We call you within one working day, and an engineer rather than a salesperson comes to the site.
  2. The survey is free and takes under an hour. We measure shade free area across the day, check your connection name and sanctioned load, and photograph the roof.
  3. You get an itemised quotation naming every component and brand, the subsidy applied, and the net figure.
  4. No obligation at any point. If solar does not make sense for your property, we will say so.

Common questions

Solar in Mylapore, common questions

Yes. Mounting follows the roof pitch rather than sitting on a flat surface, and the fixings must be properly sealed at every penetration since waterproofing is more critical on a tiled roof than on a terrace. It costs more than a flat RCC installation and offers less scope for raising the array, and we price it accordingly rather than quoting a terrace rate.

Possibly. An array is designed to sit there for 25 years, so if the terrace already leaks or the waterproofing is near the end of its life, redo it first. Removing an installed array to repair waterproofing costs considerably more than doing the work beforehand. We assess the structural condition and the waterproofing at the survey.

They need planning, not avoiding. Material handling and any lifting equipment have to be worked out in advance for the older streets around the temple, which we establish at the survey rather than discovering on installation day. It occasionally affects the schedule and rarely affects whether the job can be done.

Six to ten weeks from survey to a live, net-metered system, with TANGEDCO approval and meter installation the main variable. The installation itself is one to three days for a residential system.

Yes. We file the PM Surya Ghar application and the TANGEDCO net metering application, follow both through the section office, and track the subsidy to your bank account. We also check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, since a mismatch stops applications more often than any technical issue.

Two years of free maintenance from commissioning, covering panel cleaning, annual inspection of connections and structure, generation monitoring and warranty coordination with the manufacturer.
