Living next to a defence wall
A Ministry of Defence circular of 21 October 2016 lists Avadi among stations where security restrictions apply up to 10 metres from the outer wall of Army establishments, and any construction or repair activity in that strip needs prior NOC from the Local Military Authority. Separately, Tamil Nadu's building rules require prior clearance from the defence authority for layouts and building plans within 500 metres of a defence boundary. Panels fixed close to an existing approved terrace rarely raise questions, but an elevated structure adds height. If your house is within 10 metres of an Army wall, ask the LMA before installing and keep the approved plan ready.
Kovilpathagai, Jothi Nagar and the TNHB colonies
In December 2025, residents told The Times of India that ankle-deep water entered nearly 5,000 houses in Kovilpathagai, while Jothi Nagar was also badly hit and the commissioner reported a slight breach in Annanur Eri. A year earlier, about 5,000 residents in Tamil Nadu Housing Board areas in wards 40 and 41 were left waterlogged when a larger drain on the Chennai to Tiruvallur High Road backed into smaller ones. The commissioner said water entered homes mainly where they were built over lakes or channels. In those pockets, mount the inverter and boxes well above floor level and seal cable entries.

Avadi anchors a defence industrial corridor around the Heavy Vehicles Factory, Engine Factory and CVRDE, and sits about 7 km from the Ambattur Industrial Estate. Supplier workshops and light industry here are non-domestic connections on net feed-in, with exports credited at ₹3.61 a unit up to 10 kW and ₹3.37 from 11 to 150 kW, so the array should match the daytime load rather than fill the roof.
