The 2015 water line decides where equipment goes

The News Minute reported in December 2015 that Mancholai Street, closest to the river near Kasi theatre, was among the worst hit, with manufacturing units, godowns and automobile showrooms damaged. The Comptroller and Auditor General later named a causeway across the Adyar as one reason Ekkattuthangal and Jafferkhanpet flooded, and it was demolished in November 2018. Removing it helps, but riverside units should still design for a repeat. Working inside Guindy Industrial Estate

The SIDCO estate beside Ekkattuthangal is one of India's oldest, at 404 acres since 1958. A 2024 study by CII and JLL found crumbling internal roads, encroachments and stormwater drains too small to stop chronic waterlogging, and DT Next has reported sewage overflowing onto Ekkaduthangal Road in the estate's south phase during drain works. If your lathes, compressors and lighting use less than that between morning and late afternoon on a working day, the surplus is sold back cheaply.
