Solar Panel Installation in Manali

Corrosion specification set to this site, not to a standard coastal template

Manali is the most corrosive environment for a solar installation anywhere in Chennai, and it is not close. Coastal salt air combined with a heavy petrochemical and industrial atmosphere attacks mounting steel, fasteners and module frames faster than either factor would alone. Specification here is not a preference.

The short answer

Looking for a solar panel installation company in Manali?

Blues Renewables is a solar panel installation company working in Manali and across Chennai since 2020. We install rooftop solar for homes, apartments, businesses and industrial units, handle the PM Surya Ghar subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for households and the TANGEDCO net metering application end to end, and include two years of free maintenance with every installation.

The local picture

The most corrosive site conditions in the city

Manali combines two corrosion drivers that rarely occur together at this intensity: proximity to the coast, bringing salt-laden air, and a dense concentration of petrochemical and heavy industry, bringing an industrial atmosphere. Together these attack mounting structures, fasteners and module frames considerably faster than a coastal location alone. Hardware that performs adequately elsewhere in Chennai will not last here.

What that requires

A higher corrosion protection specification than standard coastal

Covering the mounting structure, all fasteners and any exposed metalwork. This is a genuine engineering specification decision, not a marketing upgrade.

IEC 61701 salt mist corrosion certified modules

As a minimum, verifiable on the datasheet.

Hot dip galvanised structures with appropriate coating thickness

Since standard galvanising specified for an inland site will not deliver the same life here.

Sealed enclosures for inverters and protection equipment

Sited to minimise exposure, with a shorter inspection interval. Corrosion is progressive and visible early if anyone looks, so annual inspection of fasteners, connections and structure matters more here than anywhere else in the city.

Ask this of any installer quoting Manali

What corrosion class are you specifying to, and why?

An installer who quotes the same structure they would use in Anna Nagar has not thought about the site.

Beyond corrosion

Continuous process operations and sheet roof condition

Manali’s heavy industry means large sheet roofs, HT connections with substantial contract demand, and installation that has to work around continuous operations rather than a day shift. Shutdown windows are usually the only viable tie-in opportunity and need booking well in advance. In this atmosphere the roof sheeting itself corrodes, so remaining life needs assessing honestly before an array is fixed to it. Demand charges are not displaced by solar, and on an HT connection they are a substantial part of the bill.

Residential

Solar for Manali homes

Residential settlement in Manali serves the industrial base and is a secondary market here.

Independent houses

Typically install 2 kW to 4 kW, with the same elevated corrosion specification as industrial sites.

Dust and particulate levels are high

So cleaning frequency should be set to the location rather than a citywide default.

Apartment blocks

Follow the association route for common-area systems.

Commercial and industrial

Solar for Manali businesses

Every project here starts with an energy audit covering load profile, contract demand, recorded maximum demand and shift pattern, and a roof condition assessment that takes the atmosphere seriously.

Petrochemical and heavy industry

The core market. Large sheet roofs, HT connections, continuous process operations, and the most demanding corrosion environment in the city.

Ancillary and support units

Smaller sheds, tighter margins, and often better served by an OPEX structure than by ownership.

Warehousing and logistics

On the corridor approaches. Large roof relative to load, so sizing to self-consumption matters.

Support services and offices

On the estates.

The process

How installation works

1

Free site survey

Shade-free roof area measured across the day, structure checked, connection name and sanctioned load confirmed.

2

Design and itemised quotation

Sized against twelve months of consumption, with every component named.

3

Approvals filed

PM Surya Ghar and TANGEDCO net metering, plus load enhancement or phase conversion in parallel where needed.

4

Installation

One to three days for a residential system, carried out by our own team rather than subcontracted.

5

Inspection and commissioning

TANGEDCO inspects, both meters go in, the system goes live.

6

Subsidy tracked to your account

And two years of maintenance included from commissioning.

We check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, because a mismatch stops more applications than any technical issue. See what to keep ready.

Free, no obligation

Been quoted the same structure as an inland site?

Then the quote has not accounted for where you are. Salt plus industrial atmosphere here needs a higher corrosion class, and we will show you why.

What happens after you send your details

  1. We call you within one working day, and an engineer rather than a salesperson attends the site.
  2. The survey is free. We measure usable area and shading, check your connection and sanctioned load, and photograph the site.
  3. You get an itemised quotation naming every component and brand, with the subsidy or depreciation position set out.
  4. No obligation at any point. If solar does not make sense for your property, we will say so.

Common questions

Solar in Manali, common questions

Because it combines two drivers. Coastal salt air and a dense petrochemical and heavy industrial atmosphere together attack mounting structures, fasteners and module frames considerably faster than either alone. Standard coastal specification is not adequate here, and structures, fasteners and coating thickness all need specifying to the actual site conditions.

Ask what corrosion class they are specifying to and why, and ask to see the IEC 61701 salt mist certification on the module datasheet. An installer quoting the same structure they would use for an inland Chennai site has not assessed the location.

Not reliably. Demand charges are levied on contract or recorded maximum demand, which can peak at night, at a shift change or on a cloudy afternoon. Solar reduces the energy charge on units generated during daylight hours. Any proposal implying an industrial bill disappears has not modelled the connection properly.

Six to ten weeks from survey to a live, net-metered system, with TANGEDCO approval and meter installation the main variable. The installation itself is one to three days for a residential system, and longer for a commercial or industrial project.

Yes. We file the PM Surya Ghar application and the TANGEDCO net metering application, follow both through the section office, and track the subsidy to your bank account. We also check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, since a mismatch stops applications more often than any technical issue.

Two years of free maintenance from commissioning, covering panel cleaning, annual inspection of connections and structure, generation monitoring and warranty coordination with the manufacturer.
