Solar Panel Installation in Puzhal
Cable sized for the distance, because on a large site that quietly costs output for decades
On a large site the array and the electricity meter can be a long way apart, and every metre of cable between them costs a little generation. It is a small effect on a house and a meaningful one across a warehouse or a yard.
Installing across Chennai since 2020
Two years free maintenance included
Subsidy and TANGEDCO paperwork filed by us

The short answer
Looking for a solar panel installation company in Puzhal?
Puzhal is mostly independent houses with their own terraces, which is the simplest case for rooftop solar: one owner, one roof, one connection. The lakes around here keep local humidity high, which we allow for in enclosure rating and earthing design. We install across Chennai and have done since 2020, filing both the PM Surya Ghar subsidy of up to ₹78,000 for homes and the TANGEDCO net metering application, with two years of free maintenance included. Before the survey, you can check the solar panel price in Chennai for 3 kW to 10 kW systems and see how our solar panel installation in Chennai works, the same process we follow in Puzhal.

The local picture
Distance between the array and the meter
Electricity loses a small amount of energy travelling along a cable, and the longer the run and the thinner the conductor, the more is lost. On a compact residential property the distance from array to inverter to meter is short and the effect is negligible. On a large warehouse, yard or multi-building site the runs can be substantial, and cable sizing becomes a design decision that affects both cost and output.
What has to be balanced
Cable size against loss
Thicker cable loses less but costs more, and on a long run the difference in copper is significant.
Where the inverter sits
Placing it nearer the array shortens the DC run, but the AC run to the meter then lengthens. The right position depends on the site.
String voltage
Higher-voltage strings lose proportionally less over distance, which is one reason string configuration is a design matter rather than an arbitrary choice.
Multiple inverters on large sites
Positioned near separate array sections rather than running everything back to one point.
Why it matters commercially
A few percent across twenty-five years is not trivial
Getting the cable sizing wrong to save on copper is a false economy that quietly costs output for the life of the installation. On any large site, ask what the expected cable loss is and how the cable has been sized. A proposal that does not mention it has probably not calculated it.
Warehousing brings the roof question alongside
Large roofs with modest loads should be sized to consumption
Since non-domestic consumers are generally on net feed-in and exported units earn well below the tariff paid on imports. Where the roof substantially exceeds the load, a carport over yard space or a roof lease arrangement may be worth evaluating instead.

Puzhal rooftop solar: the reservoir's surplus course and how to plan for it
Puzhal sits on the bank of Puzhal Lake, also called Red Hills Lake, a 3,300 million cubic feet reservoir that supplies Chennai. When it spills, its surplus course runs through Puzhal streets on a 15 km path to the Ennore Creek.
Living along the surplus course
On 1 December 2015 Puzhal recorded 320 mm of rain overnight, and the next day the reservoir saw the highest inflow and outflow in its history: 9,607 cusecs in and 5,470 cusecs out. Ahead of the releases, sandbags were placed at vulnerable points along the surplus course, including Thandalkazhani, Vadakarai, Thiruneelakandan Nagar and Baba Nagar in Puzhal, and residents were warned of inundation. If your house is on or near that course, design for water at ground level. Put the inverter and distribution board in the terrace stair room or on a first-floor wall, bring cables down the outside wall in sealed conduit, and keep the earth pit cover raised and accessible.
What to do when releases are announced
Reservoir releases come with warnings, which gives you time. Mark the inverter's AC isolator and the solar breaker in the distribution board so anyone in the house can find them. If water threatens the equipment and you can reach it safely, switch off the AC isolator and the solar breaker, then the DC isolator. Never touch equipment already standing in water: the cables from the panels stay live whenever there is daylight. After the water goes down, have the system insulation-tested before it is restarted. A grid-tied system does not run during a power cut, so it will not help through the outage itself. Note the date and the water depth as well, since it helps a warranty claim if equipment is damaged.
Sizing a Puzhal home
Using the Chennai district yield of 1,600 units per kW a year, the same figure the calculator gives Tiruvallur, a 3 kW system makes about 4,800 units a year, roughly 800 per two-month billing cycle, and a 4 kW system about 6,400. Single-phase supply stops at 4 kW, so a 5 kW system needs three-phase first. A 3 kW system costs about ₹2,10,000 before subsidy and about ₹1,10,000 after the central ₹78,000 and the ₹22,000 Tamil Nadu top-up. Homes pay no fixed charge, so what remains is mainly the network charge on generation, about ₹0.32 a unit. On a larger plot, the inverter can sit closer to the array to keep the DC cable run short, but it should still stay above the flood line.

And two years of maintenance included from commissioning.
We check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, because a mismatch stops more applications than any technical issue. See what to keep ready.
Free, no obligation
What will it cost on your roof in Puzhal?
Quote silent on cable sizing?
On a large site the run from array to meter matters. Undersized cable saves copper today and costs generation for twenty five years.
What happens after you send your details
- We call you within one working day, and an engineer rather than a salesperson attends the site.
- The survey is free. We measure usable area and shading, check your connection and sanctioned load, and photograph the site.
- You get an itemised quotation naming every component and brand, with the subsidy or depreciation position set out.
- No obligation at any point. If solar does not make sense for your property, we will say so.
Common questions
Solar in Puzhal, common questions
Does cable length affect solar output?
It does, though the effect is negligible on a compact house and meaningful across a large site. Electricity loses a little energy travelling along a cable, and longer runs with undersized conductors lose more. On a warehouse or yard site, cable sizing becomes a design decision affecting both cost and output for the system’s life.
How do you reduce cable losses on a large site?
By sizing the cable properly rather than minimally, positioning the inverter to balance the DC and AC run lengths, configuring strings at appropriate voltage, and on large sites using multiple inverters near separate array sections rather than running everything back to a single point.
What should I ask about this in a quote?
What the expected cable loss is and how the cable has been sized. A proposal for a large site that does not mention it has probably not calculated it, and saving on copper is a false economy that quietly costs output for twenty-five years.
How long does installation take in Puzhal?
Plan on six to ten weeks in Puzhal. Roof work is one to three days; the earthing pit takes an extra half day in this ground, and the rest is approval and the bi-directional meter.
Do you handle the subsidy and TANGEDCO paperwork?
Yes, both. We file the PM Surya Ghar application and the TANGEDCO net metering application and follow them through the section office covering Puzhal. We confirm the connection name and sanctioned load at the survey, since those are what stop applications, and we track the subsidy to your bank account after commissioning.
What is included after installation?
Two years of free maintenance from commissioning, covering panel cleaning, annual inspection of connections and structure, generation monitoring and warranty coordination with the manufacturer.
My house is near the Puzhal Lake surplus channel. Is rooftop solar still worth it?
Yes. The panels on the roof are out of reach of floodwater, and the savings come every dry month. What changes is where the equipment goes: keep the inverter and distribution board in the terrace stair room or on a first-floor wall, and run cables in sealed conduit down the outside of the house.
Is Puzhal treated as Chennai or Tiruvallur for a solar application?
Puzhal is now in Chennai district, having been annexed to Greater Chennai Corporation in 2011, but it makes no difference to the solar process. The application goes through the national PM Surya Ghar portal and the electricity distributor, the subsidy is the same, and the calculator yield is 1,600 units per kW in both districts.
