Tamil Nadu’s domestic tariff includes a free-unit allowance, and it is telescopic, meaning the rate rises through consumption slabs. In a judgment of 11 May 2011 the Madras High Court ruled on petitions, some dating from 2002, over coal and iron ore dust from Chennai Port, which petitioners said the sea breeze pushed into the neighbourhoods beside the port. Whatever the cargo today, a roof here still sits close to a working port, a busy fishing harbour, lorry routes and the sea. Expect salt film and fine dust together. Wind on the north Chennai coast
Down To Earth reported that Cyclone Vardah in December 2016 destroyed several houses in coastal parts of the city, naming Royapuram among them. IS 875 Part 3 puts Chennai's basic wind speed at 50 m/s and treats the east coast as cyclone-prone. On Royapuram's older terraces that changes two things.
