Solar Panel Installation in Chromepet
Honest sizing for narrow plots, so you get a system that fits rather than one that gets redesigned on site
Chromepet packs a great deal into narrow plots. Houses are close together, commercial frontage is dense along the GST Road and the station approaches, and usable roof area is almost always less than the terrace size suggests. Measuring that properly before quoting is the difference between a system that fits and one that gets redesigned on site.

The short answer
Looking for a solar panel installation company in Chromepet?
Chromepet has houses and flats side by side, which means the useful answer depends on whether you own your roof outright or share it with an association. It sits under the airport approach, so structure height is something we keep conservative and confirm rather than assume. Blues Renewables has worked across Chennai since 2020. We handle the PM Surya Ghar claim of up to ₹78,000 where the property is residential, file the TANGEDCO net metering paperwork, and include two years of maintenance. Before the survey, you can check the solar panel price in Chennai for 3 kW to 10 kW systems and see how our solar panel installation in Chennai works, the same process we follow in Chromepet.

Your figures, not these ones
The numbers above are a standard 5 kW example. What your roof in Chromepet can carry, and what it costs after subsidy, comes from a free survey: an engineer on the terrace, not a salesperson on the phone.

The local picture
Why usable roof area is the constraint in Chromepet
Chromepet’s plots are narrow and buildings sit close together, so shading from neighbouring structures is a routine constraint rather than an occasional one. A terrace that measures 400 square feet may offer considerably less usable shade-free area through the middle of the day, once neighbouring walls, staircase headrooms, water tanks and parapet shadow are accounted for.
What we establish at survey
Shade-free area measured across the day
Since a neighbouring building on the western side will not show up in a morning assessment.
Height as a solution, where it is one
Where a neighbouring structure casts shade, raising the array can lift it above the shadow line. Where the neighbouring building is much taller, it cannot, and we will say so rather than installing something that underperforms.
Split arrays across roof sections
With multi-MPPT inverters, so a partially shaded section does not drag down the rest.
Realistic sizing
In tighter Chromepet properties the honest answer is sometimes a 3 kW system rather than the 5 kW the household’s consumption would justify. A partial offset is still worth having, and overselling the size here produces disappointment.
The second factor
The commercial frontage is a different problem
The GST Road and station area carry a dense strip of showrooms, small businesses and educational institutions, and the constraints there are different again: leased premises, roof rights held by landlords, and multi-occupant buildings where the terrace belongs to nobody in particular.

Solar for Chromepet businesses
Showrooms and retail
Along the GST Road and station approach. Evening-weighted trading, leased premises, and roof rights the first question. Where the roof is not available, a carport over parking can be the alternative.
Educational institutions
Including the engineering college presence. Strong daytime load matched to generation, with vacation periods affecting sizing.
Small businesses and workshops
Modest loads, but commercial tariffs make each displaced unit worth more than a domestic one.
Local guide
Rooftop solar in Chromepet: airport heights, GST Road loads and sizing
Chromepet lies about 4 km south of Chennai International Airport on GST Road, close enough that a raised solar frame on an already tall building can push its top elevation into question.
How the airport height limit counts a solar frame
The Airports Authority of India publishes Colour Coded Zoning Maps for major airports, showing a permissible top elevation for each grid square, measured in metres above mean sea level. A local body can clear a building whose top elevation stays below that figure without referring it to AAI. The top elevation includes every installation on the roof: aerials, lightning arresters, vent pipes, overhead water tanks and any attachment on the superstructure. A raised solar frame is one of those attachments. The taller the building, the less headroom is left, so on a block of four floors or more we check the grid's permissible elevation on AAI's NOCAS portal before proposing a 9 foot structure, and use a low-tilt frame fixed close to the slab where the margin is thin.
Big-format stores on the GST Road corridor
The GST Road stretch through Chromepet carries some of the largest retail buildings in the southern suburbs: Saravana Stores, Pothys, The Chennai Silks, electronics showrooms such as Reliance Digital and Croma, and jewellery chains. Where the business owns its building, the roof is available and daytime air conditioning and lighting make a solid base load. These are non-domestic connections on net feed-in, so exported units earn only ₹3.61 a unit up to 10 kW and ₹3.37 from 11 to 150 kW, well below the retail tariff the store pays. Size the array to what the store consumes while the sun is up, not to the full roof.
Hospitals on the medical stretch
Chromepet is home to Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre and Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, alongside other multi-speciality hospitals. Their daytime load is large and continuous, which solar offsets well. A grid-tied system shuts down during a power cut by design, so the DG sets and UPS stay exactly as they are. Large hospital roofs usually carry chillers, tanks and other plant, so the survey has to map usable area around service access before any sizing starts.
Sizing a Chromepet house from 3 kW
The smallest system we install is 3 kW, which needs about 250 to 300 square feet of shade-free roof. Using the Chengalpattu district yield of 1,580 units per kW a year, 3 kW makes about 4,740 units a year, roughly 790 per two-month billing cycle. It costs about ₹2,10,000 before subsidy and about ₹1,10,000 after the central ₹78,000 and the ₹22,000 Tamil Nadu top-up. If the shade-free area falls short of 3 kW, an elevated frame over the stair headroom and water tank can often recover it, subject to the height check above.

The process
How installation works
Free site survey
Shade-free roof area measured across the day, structure checked, connection name and sanctioned load confirmed.
Design and itemised quotation
Sized against twelve months of consumption, with every component named.
Approvals filed
PM Surya Ghar and TANGEDCO net metering, plus load enhancement or phase conversion in parallel where needed.
Installation
One to three days for a residential system, carried out by our own team rather than subcontracted.
Inspection and commissioning
TANGEDCO inspects, the net meter goes in, the system goes live.
Subsidy tracked to your account
And two years of maintenance included from commissioning.
We check the name on your electricity connection at the survey, because a mismatch stops more applications than any technical issue. See what to keep ready.
Free, no obligation
What will it cost on your roof in Chromepet?
Think your roof is too small?
It might be smaller than you think, and still worth doing. We measure shade free area across the day and tell you the real number before you commit to anything.
What happens after you send your details
- We call you within one working day, and an engineer rather than a salesperson comes to the site.
- The survey is free and takes under an hour. We measure shade free area across the day, check your connection name and sanctioned load, and photograph the roof.
- You get an itemised quotation naming every component and brand, the subsidy applied, and the net figure.
- No obligation at any point. If solar does not make sense for your property, we will say so.
Common questions
Solar in Chromepet, common questions
How much roof do I need for solar in Chromepet?
Roughly 80 to 100 square feet of usable shade-free area per kW, so 250 to 300 square feet for a 3 kW system. In Chromepet the important word is usable. Narrow plots and close neighbouring buildings mean the shade-free area through the middle of the day is often considerably less than the total terrace, which is why we measure across the day rather than estimating.
My neighbour’s building shades my roof. Can I still install solar?
Often yes, with design changes. Raising the array on an elevated structure can lift it above the shadow line, and splitting the array with multiple MPPT inputs stops a shaded section dragging down the rest. Where the neighbouring building is substantially taller, height will not solve it, and we will tell you that at the survey rather than after installation.
Can a Chromepet showroom install solar on leased premises?
Only with the property owner’s written agreement, and the lease term needs considering against a 25-year asset. Where the roof belongs to a landlord or is shared in a multi-occupant building, a solar carport over parking is sometimes the workable alternative, since the parking may sit within your demise.
How long does installation take in Chromepet?
Plan on six to ten weeks in Chromepet. Height confirmation happens during design; the installation is one to three days and approval is the variable.
Do you handle the subsidy paperwork?
Yes, we file both. Alongside the PM Surya Ghar application and TANGEDCO net metering, we confirm structure height at survey in Chromepet given the airport proximity, so nothing is queried at the inspection stage.
What is included after installation?
Two years of free maintenance from commissioning, covering panel cleaning, annual inspection of connections and structure, generation monitoring and warranty coordination with the manufacturer.
My building in Chromepet has four floors. Can I still put up an elevated solar structure?
Possibly, but check the height first. AAI counts every rooftop attachment in a building's top elevation, and your grid on the Colour Coded Zoning Map has a fixed permissible elevation above sea level. If the margin is thin, a low-tilt frame fixed close to the slab is the safer choice.
Our showroom on GST Road owns its building. How big should the solar system be?
Big enough to cover what the store uses in daylight, and no bigger. As a non-domestic connection you are on net feed-in, where exports earn ₹3.61 a unit up to 10 kW and ₹3.37 from 11 to 150 kW, far less than you pay for grid power. Twelve months of bills and your opening hours give the right size.
